TL;DR

  • This is the current League of Legends tier list reflecting changes made to the game from the most recent patch.
  • The tier ratings for this list are based on updates in the recent patch along with community stats and pro play trends.
  • S-Tier champions are considered the strongest within the current League of Legends meta.
  • This tier list separates champions within the five roles in the game: Top Lane, Mid Lane, Bottom Lane, Jungle and Support.

League of Legends is a MOBA that has been around since 2009, quickly rising to become one of the most popular games in the world. As the years have passed, the roster of playable champions in League of Legends has expanded significantly. At the time of writing– September 7, 2025–there are 171 champions in the game.

Because of the sheer amount of champions to choose from, it can be more than a little intimidating when it comes to choosing who you want to play as. That’s where LoL tier lists come in, as they can be incredibly helpful in knowing which champions are the most effective in the game’s current meta.

We have created our own League of Legends tier list to help you know exactly who the best character in League of Legends is in the game’s current state.

League of Legends tier list explained

As is the case with a lot of online games, the meta of League of Legends changes with every patch release. Champions tend to receive changes during each patch, such as nerfs, buffs, or more significant reworks. Because of this, the best champions to play in League of Legends change constantly, making it difficult to know where to start when choosing the right character for you.

How our LoL tier list was compiled

  • S-Tier: The best of the best champions to play as in the current League of Legends meta. These are heroes with versatile skills and abilities that can completely change a game. They also have consistent win rates across various ranks and game modes.
  • A-Tier: Well-rounded champions that are effective in their specific role and are strong choices in general.
  • B-Tier: Average champions who can effectively support a team, but tend to be situational picks. They can thrive in certain team compositions but fall behind in others.
  • C-Tier: Champions that are not as effective due to nerfs or lack of power. They can also be countered with ease, making them difficult to handle if you aren’t an expert.
  • D-Tier: Ineffective in the current League of Legends meta. These champions aren’t recommended, particularly for beginners.

Our League of Legends champions tier list will split the characters into one of the five roles in the game, those being:

  • Top Lane
  • Middle Lane
  • Bottom Lane
  • Jungle
  • Support

The information compiled in our LoL tier list ranking is made up of data from the game’s recent patch notes as well as pro play trends and community performance data. Some of the community platforms we have used to collect this data include OP.GG, LoLalytics, Blitz.GG, Mobalytics, Metasrc, and U.GG. We will update our tier list as the meta continues to shift, so be sure to check back when a new patch update drops.

LoL tier list in brief

We won’t be listing every single LoL champion in this tier list (there are a lot of them after all), but we will be highlighting some particularly noteworthy champions in each role for each tier. This will offer a good selection of top tier League of Legends champions in the current meta, as well as highlighting those that are best avoided.

Here’s a quick rundown of the best champions ranked by tier in the current LoL meta. Bear in mind that while some champions are ineffective in a certain role, they might be considerably more effective in another role.

For the top lane, the likes of Warwick, Jax, and Quinn make for dominating presences with the current meta. Warwick has high-level sustainability, and although his pick rate isn’t as high as some of the other champions, he has an impressive win rate of 52.78%. Jax is an incredible duelist champion with some fantastic scaling opportunities, even if it takes a while for him to get there. Quinn is often debated as an S-Tier top lane hero, with some placing her at the bottom end of their LoL ranked tier lists. However, it is impossible to deny her excellent mobility and strong ranged attacks, which can become all the more difficult to face when paired with champions that suit her skill set.

Tier Champion
S Quinn, Warwick, Singed, Sett, Jax, Yorick, Fiora, Mordekaiser, Malphite, Irelia, Shen.

C K’Sante, Yone, Heimerdinger, Ryze, Kassadin, Nidalee, Brand, Tahm Kench, Lee Sin.
D Aurora, Olaf, Gwen, Trundle, Kayn, Smolder, Xin Zhao, Udyr.

Mid lane tier list

Champions such as Vex, Sylas and LeBlanc are currently S-Tier mid lane heroes in the current meta. Vex is a mage who can easily punish more aggressive assassin champions, while her late-game abilities can render stealth or mobile attacks useless. LeBlanc is great at pressuring the enemy team with poke skills, while her mobility and speed make her particularly noteworthy compared to other mid lane champions. Sylas can turn the tide of a battle by using the enemy team’s ultimate abilities against them. He’s versatile too, able to adapt to a range of team compositions.

Tier Champion
S LeBlanc, Qiyana, Morgana, Katarina, Neeko, Orrianna, Vex, Twisted Fate, Viktor, Sylas, Zoe, Galio, Akshan, Xerath.
A Fizz, Annie, Anivia, Hwei, Kenne, Twitch, Lissandra, Sion, Vel’Koz, Taliyah, Lux, Yasuo, Talon.
B Ahri, Tryndamere, Xerath, Malzahar, Swain, Camille.
C Aatroz, Karthus, Ziggs, Ezreal, Tristana, Vel’Koz, Irelia.
D Kassadin, Jayce, Corki, Azir, Aurelion Sol, Kog’Maw.

Bottom lane tier list

For the bottom lane, Jinx, Miss Fortune and Kai’Sa are top-level right now. Jinx is known for being a late-game hypercarry with her long-range versatility. She is also highly mobile thanks to her passive ability, which activates when she gets a kill. Miss Fortune is also an excellent long-range champion, though her Bullet Time skill–which can tear through grouped enemies–is her modus operandi. Kai’Sa’s hybrid assassin abilities, including adaptive damage via hybrid AP/AD scaling, make her a formidable bottom lane champion, as well as one with excellent mobility.

Tier  Champion
S Kai’ Sa, Jinx, Yunara, Sivir, Nilah, Draven, Kog’Maw, Miss Fortune, Yasuo, Vayne, Syndra.
A Lucian, Twitch, Smolder, Ziggs, Ashe, Mel, Jhin, Caitlyn, Zeri.
B Senna, Samira, Tristana, Seraphine, Xayah, Varus, Hwei.
C Corki, Aphelios, Brand, Veigar, Karthus.
D Ezreal, Kalista, Taliyah, Akshan.

Jungle tier list

Junglers farm neutral monsters and work towards objective control / Image credit: Riot Games and League of Legends

Junglers are champions who farm camps in the jungle rather than staying within one of the three lanes. Their role is vital, as they control objectives while putting pressure on enemy teams as they farm the neutral monsters within the jungle. S-Tier junglers at the moment include Ekko, Briar and Bel’Veth. Ekko combines survivability with high mobility and strong scaling to allow for quick and efficient camp clearing while creating escape routes when necessary. Briar has a significant damage output and sustainability, which makes her effective at controlling objectives and capturing jungle camps. Bel’Veth can become a nightmare in the endgame stages thanks to her scaling DPS abilities. Her mobility and ability combos make her the top choice for quick and deadly jungle clears.

Tier Champion
S Ekko, Talon, Rek’Sai, Volibear, Warwick, Briar, Sylas, Lee Sin, Bel’Veth, Qiyana, Kha’Zix, Jarvan IV.
A Elise, Udyr, Nunu and Willump, Poppy, Fiddlesticks, Jax, Amumu, Evelynn, Nautilius.
B Nidalee, Naafiri, Rengar, Vi, Zac, Gragus, Diana, Lillia, Taliyah, Wukong, Pantheon.
C Rammus, Shyvana, Nocturne, Ivern, Graves, Hecarim, Xin Zhao.
D Nilah, Cho’Gath, Maokai, Zed, Viego, Skarner, Sejuani, Zyra, Karthus.

Support tier list

Supports back up the team with supportive skills, including healing, buffs, and denying enemy vision / Image credit: Riot Games and League of Legends

As of right now, Milio, Thresh and Lulu are some of the best supports in League of Legends. Milio is the perfect all-around support, offering healing and buffs to his teammates with efficiency and precision. Lulu is also an enchanter support who can provide significant buffs to one of her allies while also offering crowd control, such as with her Whimsy ability. She’s very versatile and can easily poke at enemies while amping up her team. Thresh is different to Lulu and Milio in that he is not an enchanter support. He can easily initiate significant plays with his abilities, which emphasise picking off wayward enemies. He is far from a purely offensive support though, as his lantern–used with his The Dark Passage ability– can shield an ally in need of help.

Tier   Champion
S Milio, Thresh, Nami, Janna, Sona, Bard, Lulu, Soraka.
A Morgana, Leona, Karma, Poppy, Zilean, Elise, Galio, Nautilus, Yuumi, Lux, Maokai.
B Xerath, Vel’Loz, Blitzcrank, Pyke, Rakan, Renata Glasc, Alistar.
C Fiddlesticks, Rell, LeBlanc, Teemo, Shen, Mel.
D Anivia, Ivern, Taric, Brand, Shaco, Swain, Heimerdinger, Neeko, Senna.

It’s important to remember that even if a champion is in D-Tier, this doesn’t necessarily mean they are unplayable. Certain team compositions can work well with any champion. It’s all down to personal skill, experience and preferences, so don’t worry if your favourite champions aren’t currently considered S-Tier.

Keep in mind that this tier list is subject to change as the League of Legends meta continues to shift and change with each patch. Be sure to keep an eye out for updates to our tier list when the League of Legends meta shifts with the game patches.

How often are LoL tier lists updated?

League of Legends tier lists tend to be updated when the game receives significant patches, as these patches include changes to champions that switch up the meta.

Are tier lists the same across all regions?

Despite game patches being the same, tier lists often change across regions due to the differing playstyles in different countries. This is also why certain regions have different pick rates for particular champions.

Which role has the strongest champions in League of Legends?

Much like with tier lists, the role with the strongest champions changes depending on the shifting meta. Player skill level also changes the effectiveness of a champion. That being said, the Jungle role is considered to be particularly impactful and influential with the current meta, with several particularly strong champions included, such as Bel’Veth, Warwick and Briar.
